MFR vs Triple K

Over here in Jamaica where dancehall culture rules, its all about Gaza or Gullyside. Wondering what I'm talking about? Not much of a dancehall fan are you? It's ok I'll break it down for you, Kartel Or Mavado....Back home in Dominica,Lent is coming to a close and its back to the Bouyon. Right now, the current competition for top band is undisputably between the MFR band out of Possy and Triple K International.

Being from Possy I'm rooting for the home team. But other than my bold-faced bias there are valid reasons why MFR is the hottest band in D/A right now:

1. They're young and hungry. Mr.Benji and Co of Triple K have obviously become complacent, feeling like they have 'made it.' I've been to too many jams where Triple K feel like they need to take two hours to set up. The MFR dudes are still riding the wave of adrenaline that comes with establishing a bigger fanbase with every 'siwo' they perform at.

2. Their sound is fresh. The Triple K songs just sound played out. No one really wants to hear songs like "Scissors" anymore. We're quite willing to dance to "Have you ever" or getting our inner child on with "Blah Blah Blah"

3. It's a worldwide recession people, MFR is more relevant with songs like this:

To be fair, this song by Triple K is pretty hot too!

  1. well am from possy to so i would always say the mfr band but besides that you have to give jacklyn her lipstick and give jack his jacket, the tripple k band is over due for a make over and the mfr band is there to give it to them, the tripple k band have become old memory, with the same music and the attitude of doe care,i have never liked there music and if they doe change there content ,they will keep going down the drain.

  2. I am not really a fan of either bands
Triple Kay needs to get up with the times- they are far from original and their music sounds like indecent nursery rhymes
as to MFR, they have become complacent

    We need something new

  3. For originality I would have to give it up to MFR.
For variety, neither band is appealing. They fail to cater for all audiences- the young as well as the old. The foreigner as well as the local.
The bands need to learn to segment their music- okay you are bouyon bands but you need to dedicate some of your performance to other genres- reggae, zouk.

  4. Triple Kay triggers violence. Sounds like 'end up dpowder'or what ever it says encourages the nuisances to get on bad.
MFR must be careful not to fall in that same destructive style of music

  5. Both bands have done a good job with the bouyon music. Their songs are very catchy but like the previous anonymouses stated, both mfr and triple k has become complacent with playing bouyon only. I am especially disappointed with the MFR band because when they stated off they use to play different genres of music nowadays, its just a repatois of bang bang music. Mfr big up you have come a long way and u can go a longer way if you just mix the music.

  8. My personal opinion is that both bands need to stop hating on each other and try to take Dominica music to the next level so somebody other than dominicans oversea and freinds of domincans can hear a well packaged sound and fall in love d music have money and can take us far boyoun music sweet no ras!! but we need to think outside the box and take it to the world!! BTW i from possie big up MFR.

  9. Competition is good people.....Usain Bolt wouldn't be the fastest man alive if early on he wasn't motivated to be faster than Asafa Powell....Triple K wouldn't be so good if at first they weren't motivated to be better than WCK.......and MFR wouldn't be mashing up D/A right now if they weren't motivated to be better than Triple K!

  10. Love both bands although I have a slight preference for MFR being from Possie. However neither band would entice me to go to one of their "jams" more than once/twice a year. Their music is great for being silly at home but it's not necessarily something you want friends from other countries to listen to. Both bands need to step up their game and try to make music that is internationally appealing. They need to realise that here are some tracks that should be for home and you should only perform them in a local jam for locals to "take a foot". When I looked at the show of Triple K in Belgium ??? and I saw that they performed sous (spelling) I was mortified and kept thinking thank goodness the folks don't seem to understand what the song means. MFR and Triple K need to look at bands like WCK (back in the days) Burning Flames, and other Caribeean Soca artists like Machel Montano, Shurwine Winchester and so on who make songs that can be enjoyed if not worldwide but atleast though out the Caribbean.

  11. nuff big up to MFR making possie proud. i just hope the band stay together as friends. doh break up like previous bands we had if u know what i mean. a next thing though. play a little zouk and cadence in an album. too much bouyon. cater for an older audience to bcuz the older crew can more spend for a jam
